We need to make a change in our Business IT landscape.
It is anticipated that Audxtreme™ will switch to Linux shortly.
With over 27 years of experience in the Information Technology industry, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse spectrum of internet service providers (ISPs) in South Africa and Africa. My career has spanned engagements with the continent’s largest ISP and extended to the oldest and perhaps smallest ISP in Cape Town, South Africa. The latter experience was particularly enriching, as it provided an environment where colleagues were enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and expertise. It was in this supportive setting that I was first introduced to Linux® more than 23 years ago.
In the past 18 months, Audxtreme™ has been rigorously evaluating the Linux® environment to assess the feasibility of migrating 90% of its IT infrastructure from Microsoft® and Apple® platforms to Linux®. This comprehensive evaluation has involved testing various Linux® distributions (Distros) such as Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, SuSE, and Red Hat.
From a business perspective, we have observed that Microsoft’s® frequent updates and rapid transition to new versions of its Windows® OS platform have become increasingly hardware-dependent and financially burdensome, particularly for small businesses. In contrast, Linux® operating systems offer a compelling alternative, as they are capable of running efficiently on older technology and require minimal computer hardware specifications.
Audxtreme™ has conducted extensive internal testing and benchmarking, which conclusively demonstrate that Linux® outperforms other operating systems in its class across several critical metrics. Our findings indicate that Linux® offers superior stability, requiring fewer hardware resources while delivering significantly faster performance. Additionally, Linux® has consistently proven to be more secure, providing enhanced security features that surpass those of its competitors. These advantages underscore Linux® as a robust and efficient choice for users seeking reliability, speed, and top-tier security in their operating system.
Will Audxtreme™ continue utilizing Microsoft® software?
Yes, Audxtreme™ will maintain the use of Microsoft® operating systems and software. Our audio and production software currently relies on the Microsoft Windows® platform for optimal performance. However, we are transitioning our audio controllers to standalone units. Once this transition is complete, our business operations and hardware will be fully migrated to Linux® systems.
Strategic Migration to Linux®
Migrating to Linux® makes sound business sense, especially for small businesses. Linux® allows older computer hardware to be revitalized and fully functional again. In contrast, these older systems may struggle to run the latest Microsoft® operating systems due to increased hardware demands. For instance, Windows® 10 will reach the end of its support life cycle in October 2025. At that point, it will need to be replaced by more resource-intensive versions like Windows® 11 and the upcoming Windows® 12.
Future Outlook
By adopting Linux®, we not only extend the lifespan of our existing hardware but also position our company for greater operational efficiency and sustainability.
